- SPECTRUM SUNSTONE MINE
- A scenic 2-hour drive leads you to the famous Spectrum Sunstone Mine, located in the breathtaking Oregon high desert near the base of Hart Mountain. At the Spectrum Mine you will find wonderful hospitality along with some of the best Sunstone digging to be had. After supper you can watch the antelope and listen to the coyotes sing you to sleep.
- LAVA BEDS NATIONAL MONUMENT AND BATTLEGROUND
- Just 90 minutes away, the Lava Beds National Monument offers opportunities to hike volcanoes and cinder cones, study lava chimneys, explore lava tube caves, and peer over awe-inspiring vistas of lava flows.
- CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK
- World-famous Crater Lake National Park is only a three-hour drive from the mine site. There you can stand in awe of one of the natural wonders of the world. Peer over the rim of a nearly 4,000 foot deep caldera, almost 2,000 feet of which is filled with one of the deepest natural lakes in the world. The wildlife in this park is amazing, and you may glimpse anything from bear, to elk, to fox, to the elusive pica.

- Just a few hours hours by car, a side trip to the Rainbow Ridge Opal Mine (702-941-0270) in Virgin Valley, NV offers fee-digging at a different source for fire opal.
- ROYAL PEACOCK OPAL MINE
- Just a few hours by car, a side trip to the Royal Peacock Opal Mine (702-941-0374) in Virgin Valley, NV offers yet another fee-digging location for fire opal.
- DAVIS CREEK SHEEN OBSIDIAN
- Just 1 1/2 hours by car, a side trip to Davis Creek, CA offers rockhounds the opportunity to dig some beautiful obsidian that flashes green, pink and rainbow. There are also obsidian needles to be found in the same area. This side trip is FREE as long as you fill out the required California paperwork – available at the Davis Creek Store.
- HART MOUNTAIN ANTELOPE REFUGE
- A vacation in itself, Hart Mountain is just 3 hours drive from Juniper Ridge Mine – and within an hour of the Dust Devil Mine. Hart Mountain offers numerous animal species, including pronghorn antelope, California big horn sheep, mule deer, and sage grouse. Spanning over 200,000 acres with elevations ranging from 4,500 to over 8,000 feet, the refuge offers breathtaking scenery, campgrounds, and a wonderful soothing hot spring. Rockhounding on the refuge can afford visitors jasper, opal, and copralites.
